Site Name: Tel Mor

Excavator(s): Moshe Dothan (1959-1960)

Site Information: Tel Mor is interpreted as an Egyptian stronghold during the Late Bronze period. The main complex is a square fortress dating to the thirteenth century B.C.E. Its similar construction to the fortress at Deir el-Balah as well as the finds there (Egyptian, Canaanite, and Aegean pottery) support this claim. The fortress itself is of Egyptian construction rather than Canaanite, like at Deir el-Balah. The pottery finds are suggested to have been locally made rather than imported from Egypt, which also supports the idea that Egyptian officials lived and worked there.
